Cante Alentejano is already a Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. UNESCO's decision will allow to safeguard and transmit this tradition to future generations, a work to which the musician Pedro Mestre has dedicated his life. For 25 years singing the traditional music of Alentejo, pioneer of the Cante safeguard project, founder and rehearser of Alentejo choirs, Pedro Mestre is one of the main responsible for the emergence of new generations in Alentejo traditional music, taking the Alentejo Singing Coral to Schools, where since 2006 the 1st cycle students have been teaching tradition in various schools in the Lower Alentejo.
